Pink or blue? Country or the beach? These are some of the questions I have been asking myself in the quest to discover “my brand”. I didn’t even know I needed a brand or what one was until I attended Amanda Hedgepeth’s Q & A session (check out Amanda Hedgepeth Photography) at the beginning of this month. The topic came up about branding and my mind started wondering what they were talking about. Your brand is you. What represents you? Your colors, font, style, etc. Everything that is in your logo, on your website and conveyed in your images all represents you.
So now that I knew what “my brand” meant, I had to figure out what mine was. Easy enough I thought. Whoa buddy was I wrong. I started thinking what is my favorite color? Well I like pink, but I also like blue (and yellow). Which one represents me? Well my wedding colors were pink, orange and yellow. The colors I painted in my house, they are green, blue and yellow. I’m a country girl, but I love the beach. I can be girly, but also very much a tomboy. I love animals. I love jeans, but I wear skirts and dresses. Oh so much to fit into one brand. How do I narrow it all down? I even started a Pinterest board to try to hone in on my brand some. It is all over the place.
One thing is for certain, I love the outside. Whether it’s in the country or at the beach, I could be outside all the time. I love riding with the windows down, even though my car has AC. I am pretty much to the point when it comes to knowing what I want and I usually make it happen. I guess knowing who I am and how I want to represent myself is a little more difficult.
I am going to be working with the talented Sami Proctor with Vintage Urban Studio (check out her work!) to create my logo. Hopefully she can help me make some sense out of all this.
One thing that does keep popping into my head…sea glass. I absolutely love it! I love the colors, the texture. I really love finding it. I love how it has a story, although we will probably never know what it is. I love how it was once a part of something bigger that got broken. It had rough, sharp edges and over time was smoothed down to something soft and beautiful. I have been thinking about sea glass a lot this week. Its funny how I feel like it represents me. I have had rough edges, but I feel like they get smoother all the time. Life does that I feel. There are things that break us, that make us rough and our edges sharp. Then over time we get smoothed out by the ones we love and the ones that love us. I feel like my husband Mike smoothed out a lot of my rough edges. Now my son Steven is smoothing out even more. Sea glass! I feel like that might be it. We will see. Stay tuned to see what I finally nail down as “my brand”.
