So I want to start off saying that I am not a birth photographer. This is not something I would do for just anyone and I don’t plan on taking my business in that direction. With that said though, I am so very honored to have been a part of something so amazing. When Kegan told me that her and Mason wanted me to photograph the birth of their first child, I was a little shocked. Again, this isn’t something I do or had ever done. But I had worked with Kegan and Mason so much and it totally touched me that Kegan said Mason felt totally comfortable with having me there for the birth, I had to say yes just this one time.
I was a little worried about when Kegan would go into labor. She was due right around Christmas and well, for all of us that is a busy time of year. Well, her little girl didn’t want to share her big day with anyone, so she decided to come early. When I woke up on December 6th, I saw I had a missed call, a voice mail, and couple of texts. Kegan and Mason were headed to the hospital. I called and talked to Mason and he was surprisingly calm. I got ready and once I heard that she had progressed further, I headed to the hospital.
I met their doula, Averi, who took me to their room. Things were definitely moving along, as Kegan was starting to push when I arrived. It wasn’t quite time yet, as her body needed a little more time to prepare. There were a couple of scary moments, but Kegan and Mason were an amazing team. The staff and her midwife, along with Averi and Kegan’s mom, all worked together to help baby Raylighn arrive safely. It truly was an amazing event to witness. It was especially moving when Kegan got to meet and hold her daughter for the first time. All those months and hard work had finally paid off.
Thank you Kegan and Mason for inviting me to be a part of the most important time of your life. You will both be amazing parents and little Raylighn is truly blessed!
