Dana Rae Photography Dancer Project | Neon District Norfolk Virginia Dance Photographer

Dance is what I do for me. Ever since I could remember, no matter how I was feeling, dance always made me feel better. I’ve been a dance teacher for 13 years now, 10 years at the studio I teach at now. In those years I’ve gotten to see some young dancers grow and mature into amazing, strong dancers. Joie and Sydney are two of those dancers. I’ve loved seeing these beautiful young women grow up and now Sydney is starting college and Joie is beginning her senior year! But we were able to set up a date this summer at the Neon District in Norfolk to capture their session for the Dana Rae Photography dancer project.

Each of these dance sessions have been so wonderfully different. During this session we focused on lyrical and contemporary style, but we also got to do some tap!! I haven’t had any tappers yet and I was so excited to get some fun shots of the girls tapping in the fun, urban setting of Norfolk’s Neon District! They totally danced (and sang) their recital piece that was set to Bruon Mars’ 24 Carot. I loved that piece so much and I knew they did too. You can just see the joy on their faces.  I love capturing that joy and the beauty and strength that these young women exude doing what they love most.
