I have to say that this Christmas was one of the best and most magical. Steven is at that perfect age where he gets it. Santa, the reindeer, Jesus’ birthday. All of it. He is so in awe of it too. We are still singing Christmas songs and reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Our Christmas was quiet, but good. Mike had to work Christmas Day, but he was still there when Steven got up and saw his presents.
We decided a couple of Christmases ago to try to keep the real meaning in our Christmas celebration. Steven gets three presents on Christmas morning. Yes, he still gets a few stocking stuffers and of course gifts from grandparents and other family and friends. But Christmas morning when he wakes up, there will be three presents waiting for him. I know this may not sound like a lot, but hey, if it was good enough for Baby Jesus, it can be good enough for Steven. Right? It has actually been awesome. We really take the time to think out the gifts we/Santa will give him. This way he gets three great gifts and he isn’t overwhelmed and we are still celebrating what Christmas is about, Jesus and being with family.
This year, we were super excited about his gifts. He got a new bike, one with pedals. He is an ace at his balance bike and we felt he was ready for the next step. He hasn’t quite gotten the hang of pedaling, but he’ll get there. His second gift was a train table. I actually got an amazing deal on one used on an online yard sale. It even game with wooden tracks and trains, which was the type we already had! There hasn’t been a day yet he hasn’t played with it. He doesn’t care that its not new. Its new to him! Lastly, Mike made him a beautiful barn. He had started working on it last year, but as you’ll see from the photos, it became a bigger project than he expected. It is amazing though and Steven loves it. He says its Cowy’s (his stuffed cow buddy) barn. I know he will cherish it for years to come.
So as you can see, our little guy certainly didn’t get slighted at Christmas at all. He even was blessed to get an amazing outdoor play set gifted from both sets of grandparents and Mike’s grandmother. On the days where it has been dry and warm enough, he has been on it. He loves it! Here are a few photos from our Christmas. Make sure to go to the bottom of the post for the special announcement!! 🙂 🙂
